TACC Launches Lonestar 5
The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) is pleased to announce that a new UTRC computing resource, Lonestar 5, has begun full production. This new system gives researchers access to a 30,000 core, 1.2 PetaFlop Cray XC40 customized by TACC staff to provide a unique environment designed to meet the needs of our diverse community of computational researchers. Like Lonestar 4, Lonestar 5 will also include both GPU-enabled and large-memory nodes.
Current users of Lonestar 4 will have active accounts on Lonestar 5. PIs with remaining Lonestar 4 allocations will automatically have their allocation converted to Lonestar 5.
Lonestar 5 has been funded by a collaboration between the University of Texas System, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, and UT Austin's Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences and the Center for Space Research.
The existing Lonestar 4 will remain in production through Monday, February 15, 2016 to enable users to migrate codes and data to the new system. Lonestar 4 login nodes will remain available through Monday, March 14, 2016 for access to $WORK and $SCRATCH for current Lonestar 4 users to further facilitate migration of their projects to Lonestar 5. Please note the following important dates:
- February 15, 2016: Last day of Lonestar 4 production
- March 14, 2016: Last day of access to Lonestar 4 login nodes, $SCRATCH, and $WORK
