Healthy Families is a project funded by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to better understand and address inequities in prenatal care access and birth outcomes in Hidalgo and Smith counties.
The primary objective of the Healthy Families project is to identify community-specific needs and opportunities for programs to enhance early entry into prenatal care for women in Hidalgo and Smith counties. Ongoing feedback from the community is helping to inform the development of programs and services implemented in the two project sites. The impact of the selected programs on pregnancy-related outcomes is continually evaluated and this information is being used to further refine the services.
Currently, the initiative is focusing on prioritizing and targeting interventions to high-risk populations, enhancing reach, and working towards sustainability, while continually adapting to community needs.
