The role of a teacher is vital as it contributes to developing future leaders in our communities. This motivates me to strive to be an “outstanding teacher”. By being a teacher, I have the opportunity to not only help these students to be successful academically, but also develop into individuals who have integrity and resilience and are respectful of others. Diversity in the scientific workforce is vital to the nation in making progress in scientific discovery and innovation. I am motivated to become an outstanding teacher in UTRGV, a Hispanic-Serving Institution, so that I can contribute to training these future scientists.
Sue Anne Chew obtained a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Rice University where she accomplished her thesis work on developing biomaterials for bone tissue engineering.
