Georgina Arevalo
Benefits and Wellness Program Coordinator
Office of Talent and Innovation
What are your primary job responsibilities?
I serve as the benefits administrator for UT System staff and retirees. That includes managing extended leave requests such as FML, Parental Leave and Sick Leave Pool; coordinating benefits annual enrollment fairs; and collaborating with our payroll team in monthly payroll validations. This past year, I started developing wellness program goals and implementing initiatives to promote the overall well-being of our employees and retirees.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
Connecting with our employees and retirees when addressing benefits-related inquiries is something I enjoy. Also, collaborating with other departments is always fun. I appreciate how supportive and collaborative everyone is. With wellness as part of my job functions, I look forward to implementing initiatives that enhance a positive atmosphere and prioritize the overall well-being of our employees.
What advice would you give someone who is new to UT System?
Ask questions and ask for feedback. Asking questions ensures clarity of expectations and will make a new hire acquire a sense of security as they learn the new tools and resources available to them to do their job.
What do you do to disconnect or de-stress?
I listen to music. Lately, I've been turning to jazz, but I have to admit that sometimes a good, energetic, fast-moving and catchy song will encourage dancing, and all stress goes away.
