Natasha Rogers
Safety Coordinator
Office of Risk Management
What are your primary job responsibilities?
I am responsible for the safety of UT System employees, the UT System Building, and its occupants and contents. I serve as a Systemwide representative and subject-matter expert for a variety of safety topics including fire safety, occupational safety and driver safety. I also conduct fire and life safety inspections on owned and leased properties.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
I love collaborating with my colleagues in Risk Management, UT System and Systemwide. They keep me coming back every day to work — their lives, stories, and the opportunities to grow and learn from them.
What is a fact about you that may surprise your colleagues?
I'm a first-generation American. Both of my parents were born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, home of the steel pan.
What is a book or movie that has inspired you – and why?
Holes by Louis Sachar. It's a young adult book with a folk story element. It reminds me that there may be magic in the seemingly ordinary and you can overcome your family circumstances through perseverance and life choices.
What do you do to disconnect or de-stress?
I love to watch documentaries, science fiction and foreign films. I enjoy seeing how other people live and what's important to them. I have been attending the SXSW Film Festival for over 15 years and usually watch around 30 films within 10 days
What was your favorite vacation destination and if you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
Southern Spain. My aunt lives there and our family visits often. I have also enjoyed some private sailing trips to the British Virgin Islands and Turkey. I'd love to visit Japan for its unique culture and food.
